Transformers Titles in Cinema 4D
This is a simple setup for imitation of the Transformers effect in Cinema 4D using Explosion FX. It is not the same animation butt is close to the original and is rendering very fast and ones build the setup you can put everything like text and logos inside.

But i have a Problem … i did in Illustrator the rulers in middle. And all seems ok.
But when i import the File in Cinema i have the Rulers as a spline and i need to delete them.
What do i other than you ?
Delete the rules(gudes) from the Ai file and save again that have to work. Or send me e-mail with the ai file.

i tried this out with another font and have a problem…when i put the first “explode fx” between my null-object and fracture object hierarchy,everything works fine…but when i duplicate this explode fx, it looks like the 2nd one effects the whole letters,even if i drag the fx out of font range, but have the same limited settings as the first explode fx

I had the same problem and tracked it down to the Explode FX Cluster > Thickness > Variation property. When using more than one deformer you need to set the variation value to 0% or you’ll get some unwanted artifacts. Hope that helps.
The problem of Rado was that he left in Ai fail the main type and the offset path and gets little messy. We delete the real and left only the offset path version and everything works fine then.
Popstar, thanks a bunch, i had that problem with the extra artifacts and i did the Explode FX Cluster > Thickness > Variation to all deformers and it fixed the problem.

hey alexander, i wasn’t sure if you knew or not, but for the step where you apply the camera to the spline, you can just check the tangential checkbox after you set the axis to x, the camera will then follow the logo. it will eliminate the step where you have to make a target. thanks for your great tutorials!
Thanks Chris, it works well, but I have more control how exzacly will be the final shot with target null object, it is so easy to move a bit the null and get a nice view.

Amazing tutorial. My only problem is it is taking forever to render, like 200 + hours…any advice to speed that up? I have a fairly fast system, 3 gigs, dual core…any advice would be appreciated. Keep up the awesome tuts man!
My advice is to keep low the parts witch are exploded, you probably wont need that much to show that the logo is break. You can also use low anialising setting and use a lower rez. picture for texture.
Hey Alexander I was having a very silly amateur problem, with the font, i have the same font, but when i import it to cinema 4d and extrude the nurbs, the front of the text has cut ins and isn’t smooth like you’rs, as in it extrudes the lines within the txt

When you are sliding keyframes in the timeline (not the timeline window, just the small timeline that appears normally in the Standard Layout), I see you grab fairly big markers and slide them. But when I add keyframes, there is only a thin line there, and I can’t seem to grab and slide them. Is there some special setting to do what you do?

I have a question about texture projection. When i use Explotion FX deformer my texture is about “sliding” on an exploding pieces. You can see it if just explode a textured cube. Projection is sets to cubic. Can i fix it somehow?
Try to put the texture on the objects below the fracture object like extrudenurb.

I am playing with this tutorial and this is really complicated for me, from Ai to Dosch Design Extreme Hires then After Effect.
Oh and I wanna say this, 1st when I look at your completed Ai text in the video, i thought it is very simple, just type text then Offset Path, but… it took me about over 2 hours to understand what you mean. So you mean set OffSet Path then delete the inside path to make it work in C4D.Woh that’s really tired ! hah hah but i was done.
And now 1 more problem, when you create “SKY” then go to Content Browser, you chose HDRI then select 25th ball.So are those balls in the folder HDRI from the product Dosch Design: Extreme Hires ? i thought that product just has the images, how can I find the ball that you used for SKY?Help me please!

The cinema 4d have they own hdri ships with the softwear, try them first they are very useful
But i didnt see any orbs in the Content Browser, I just see the textures, that’s all.
You can drag the textures in to the material tab and automatic they will get the form of the orb material preview
You use this way to make those orbs? Where is the material tab, how can I open it ?
Oh i see, I saw the presets but I just can see the orbs when I opened the Materials Manager, but use Content Browser they are just the textures and I cant drag to anywhere.Why dont they appear as the orbs?

You have to choose a path in render settings in save tab where to save the file.
Hey Alexander, Good tutorial and I just wonder what are the settings of the Explosions FX to make it look like the video preview you did that the explosion of the text that look more like little big chunks and look way, way better than the one in the project file. If you dont choose “Render to Image Viewer”, you will not get any files then import them into Ae.
And there is no plugin can make your render progress faster.There is just 1 way to make it faster is money for your PC.

Hi, may be you dont have the impact font, the colors are diferent after the compositing but the C4D footage is the same I think.

Im sorry for the stupid question, but when you say “replace the spline under the extrude NURBS – Fracture Object” what exactly does that mean lol? Cause when i go to fracture object, then extrude NURBS, i dont know where the spline or anything is. Once again sorry for the dumb question, im really bad with cinema 4d.

I think that 3Dsmax is more close to vfx stuff, so if you are in vfx more than motiongr. go on with 3dsmax, I think that same effect can be done in 3Ds but with different tools and folowing this tutorial witch is in cinema can’t help you build the same result in max. I’m not been using maya so I cant give you answer for maya-max.
And most important thing is there is no better or less better softwear, there is one that fits you well and other that is not that comfortable for you.

My advice is to try anything that you may think that works for you and check yourself.

It depends of the rezolution of the output if it is 1920×1080 is ok
but output resolution is 960×540 and .jpg :]
I think is not bad, you know it depends of a lot things render settings effects settings texturing lighting every single peace of this can be a factor to the final render.

In what kind of rezolution

I’m fairly new to Cinema 4D after coming from a 3D studio max background. I’m having a problem with the tutorial. After I group the Null, extrude and explosion fx the effect doesn’t seem to animate. There are pieces broken apart but the actual text is still retaining its shape and not exploding. Any ideas?

I’m also having problems with the Explode plugin, when applied it explodes the text on a single frame but then does not animate at all as i scrub through the timeline. Did you find anything on this problem?
how do you make those glow lines and shine, I see that in the end of the transformes preview and in the main title of your web page, do you use photoshop or AE or VCopilot Optical Flares???

I would like to know… At the beginning of the video, you said to download on dafont website the transformers font… When I use it on AI, your AI transformers logo doesn’t look like my AI transformers logo. Sweet tutorial! My computer may be a little bit slow, got 8G Ram and a quadcore @ 2.14GHz per core.
And it takes about 1 hour for 1 frame to render :O I tried to render in 1024 x 768 HDTV

Iv been following your tutorials! They are awesome!!
On this one i have a question. Right at the beginning, where you apply an “Offset Path” to the font, you do that so it will appear on C4D, i think xD, but when i put it into C4D, i get a font that is “devided” in 2. So when i apply extrude nurbs it will only make the border thick and the rest is “empty”.
What i mean is: The extrude nurbs will only put volume to the area that is between the offset path and the outer border, and not the hole “front” of the letters.
What am i doing wrong?

You need to delete the first spline, when you make a offset illustrator make additional splines, you need only the offset, check the layers in illustrator to be shure

I just wanted to ask if you think my computer would be able to render fairly fast because i’ve seen people say that the rendering can take endless hours to complete. I have the new i5 processor with 4 GB of RAM and 64 bit Windows 7.

You need the same texture and the message will be lost but you can upload a new one and that will fix it.
About the text change just change the spline below the extrude NURBS and that’s it

Um, When I do Object File> Merge object and get my AI file used to make the text, it shows up under the object as imported but nothing shows up?
Yep, you need to put it in to the extrude nurb and replace the existing spline with your one

Is there a way to make the camera go all the way around the text, for example when I reach 100% is there a way to go over that? I’m trying to make the camera rotate around the whole text once but it cuts off at 100.
Yep there is limitation but you can rotate the spline to fits you’r needs

Presets – CINEMA 4D – Materials – HDRI – you will see all available hdris.
in presets it only says defaults 0.0
May be you do not have the full package install, you can download one Hdri from the net search in google for hdri images and will work just fine

what is the resolution for your output, if is 1280×720 is ok 2min. And in the start of the animation where are a lot of parts and they are close to the camera will be very slow render but forward will be more faster
No, my resolution is 1024×576, but 2minutes x 200 => 400mn => maybe 7hours, it’s too much no!?

I’m sorry but i followed your tutorial until the end and found it sound more like a “making off”, impossible to have the same good result, too much tweaking and very confused on the animation part in c4d….and in after effects just a little explanation, nothing is shown on the various effects….
your works is fantastic but i think the pedagogy can really improve….
Could you advise me another tutorial from you with less tweaking ?

Hey alexander i did excatly every step you did now the only problem i have is the long rendering ! I have windows 7 but i want to know some better and faster render settings the lil blue bar render thing goes up by the slightest every hour and thats no progress in that rate itll be done in a week ! do you have faster settings or tell me a way to get it to render faster
Try to do not explode the object on too much peaces this will speed up the render drastic

Set your Units into Millimeters first, under Edit>Preferences>Units..
Then try to Offset the Path again..
That should work now..

I recently finally finished your awesome tutorial in Cinema 4D but took a long time to render because of my PC Specs AMD turion 64x-bit windows 7 ultimate 2.40GHZ 4.00GB ram. I was happy though that i finished. I was just wondering how do you use sounds files and Adobe After effects for your final comp video. I know you don’t keep your previous AE files from your last comment to GOArt. Could you post a tutorial transformer title effect adobe after effects. I was having a hard time using adobe after effects with my finished cinema 4d comp. Thanks Man

You can make every letter separate and put on each different texture under the fracture object, but need to do not connect + delete the splines when you import it to cinema

see if you delete the old shapes after you offset path, check this under the layer structure in Ai

I am sorry, I know u get this question a lot but to change the text in the project settings u always say: Simple replace the spline witch us under the extrude nurbs witch is under the fracture object. I am very sorry but I do not understand how that actually works or how to do that. Do u have a video or a tutorial on just how to do that? I have tried to change the text but I don’t see anything changing at all. I guess u can say I am a little lost. Can U help me please?

I also do not have Adobe Illustrator. I just realized that. I have a very early version of Photoshop. Is there another way I can do this. My gamertag is OptimusMagnum on PS3 and XboxLive and I would love to use this for an Intro but kinda make it my own with extras or different style or longer effects. Can u help me? Ok so I have Illustrator but there is no way I can get my hands on Adobe After Effects, How can I do this. I have Cinema 4D also
Hey I got everything to work properly except for the rendering. When it would try to render the project it just does only one frame, and that frame just so happens to be which ever one I’m scrubbed to. The After Effects project also does the same thing where it only recognizes one frame. What am I doing wrong?
Nevermind, I got it to work. Had it set to only render the current frame and not all frames. *facepalm*

Hey long did it take to render your movie?
Wicked tutorial, the only thing is that the rendering is so slow 20 minutes and it has only done the first frame and half of the second frame. I lowered the settings for it render faster and all that please help is there an easy way to render it. Is there a way of putting it on After Effects without rendering first?
