Metaball Tutorial in Cinema 4D
Here is one very simple and good way to create some abstract cool looking 3D animation in Cinema 4D using the Metaball object. We going to make the Metaball object setup then animate the objects inside and import Adobe Illustrator file to create 3D logo or type. Use the Vibrate TAG in Cinema 4D to simulate natural movement of the camera. Create environment and load HDRI image to fill it. Make some materials to reflect the environment and add lights to the scene. Also use Fracture object in MoGraph to manipulate the Phong angle of the polygons and bring more reflections in text.
If you have problems with quality you can try watch it here in HD
The HDRI image is from HERE

Download the project here! ( do not include the HDRI image )

NIce tut, thanks… like the colors!

Not that awesome, but I love how people the motion graphics scene inspire each other every single day…!
cheers!
Nice, and the style is different witch is great, thanks to post
Wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhu…I have around 4 years trying to make that effect on the 3d typos…the Fracture Object over the text is the best tip for me….I always made a model of a font to get that curves on the front faces of the typos…but now…I have a quick tip thanks to you Alexander, Thanks a lot.
This is why Cinema4d is better than 3ds Max…Cinema4d is more useful for designers.
Thank you very much!
What a fantastic illusion presents
Hi Alexander, you’re tutorials are really great. I have a question though:
Why do you sometimes use a sky object, and other times use a sphere?
When I was experimenting yesterday with the sky object for my reflections, the image I was using
on the sky object was a 2000px by 2000px HDRI image, yet when I rendered it it out the image was always
really pixelated and low quality. I’m pretty sure the problem was not the anti aliasing.
Can you think of why the image isn’t nice and clear?
Thanks!
Try to insert a sphere ana map the hdri on the sphere you have more control how big the sphere will be and that will affect the quality and may be solve your problem
Ok I thought that might be the issue I’ll let you know if that solves it.
When then would you suggest using a sky object? do you really need to use images bigger than 2000 pixels for it to work properly?
Use Sky object if you going to use it only to light your scene and will not be visible in render, if you use sky object and you like to see it in the render better to use image with big size like 3000x…. and above.
Oh ok so I should use it only for ambient style lighting but not for sharp reflections.
cool thank you!
I cant open aec file in AE
You have to install the plugin for Cinema in Ae plugins directory, just copy the plugin from your maxon folder or download it from maxon and copy to ae plugin folder, then restart ae and try again
Thxxxxxxxxxx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!))
I LOVE U TUTS!!!!
Man I’m new in Cinema 4 D ! You works and Tuts Make Me love the program! You are The Best !!!Thanks
Nice tutorial, although couldn’t you use a sky object rather than a sphere?
I use the sphere because it is smaller then the sky object and the map hdri is more sharp and easy for manipulate.
where did u get the hdri image. I want thing like that, but cant find any online…

Hi, Alexander! Awesome tutorials, thank you so much!!
Would you please give me a hint: I have my own video (HD 1440×1080) of a tunnel, like you’ve used in this tutorial. How could I convert my video to HDRi to use it instead of yours image?
Thanks a lot for reply.
Hey, Alexander! Ever since I found out about this site from a friend I’ve been very inspired to create my own graphics design, I’m loving the tutorials and I’m very grateful that you are willing to share your knowledge for free.
Anyway, I was just wondering how old you were when you started with graphics design and/or ec. I am myself 15 years of age and I feel like not a lot of people (my age) share my interest of graphics design ec.
Keep it up and thank you

Nothing moves for me everytime i do the exact things you do in your tutorials something never works for me all the time and my version of cinema 4d is R11.5
Would you please tell me some medium requirements so my cinema 4d to function the right way(I don’t whant my PC to work exactly like yours, but close
), because I looked for some medium but all I saw is just minimal, and at minimal the program doesn’t work so good, would you please tell me?thank you very very much
HELP!, why is it after the rendering then saving, i only get 00:00:00 time for my video? WHY???
Hi I enjoy very much from you tutorial, I learned the HDRI, te materials and the post-wok in affter effects. How ever… When I render out the small clip… I get instead of two spheres with smooth edges… semi poligonal figures… and sharp edges whenever this intersect.. I try to see if anything went wrong in the renders setings. But I cant found the fault… If you got any ideas, please help me… I would post a video link as soon as I can…
Thank you very much Again… XD
